Społeczność BAME w Wielkiej Brytanii

Rok 2020 będzie zapamiętany jako rok, w którym wiele ważnych wydarzeń zostało zatrzymanych na długi czas. A stało się to wszystko z powodu wybuchu pandemii koronawirusa. 

Rok jak każdy inny został tak wyraźnie zaburzony przez wirus, który postawił wiele państw w obliczu kryzysu finansowego i robi dalej spustoszenie.

Poza koronawirusem, rok 2020 to wzrost ruchu Black Lives Matter, po tym gdy czarnoskóry George Floyd stracił życie w USA.

To tragiczne wydarzenie, jak i protesty, które po nim nastąpiły podkreśliły, jak ogromnym problemem jest sytuacja ze zdrowiem psychicznym wśród społeczności BAME - (Black and Minority Erhnic) - czarnoskórych i mniejszości etnicznych.

Problemy ze zdrowiem psychicznym są jednymi z największych problemów, z jakimi mierzy się społeczność BAME w Wielkiej Brytanii.

Jednym z powodów, dla których społeczności BAME doświadczają problemów ze zdrowiem psychicznym na tak dużą skalę jest fakt zmagania się z ograniczeniami w dostępie do opieki medycznej. Są także bardziej narażone na życie w biedzie i sporą stopę bezrobocia.

Negatywną rolę odgrywa też dyskryminacja rasowa. W Wielkiej Brytanii społeczność BAME mierzy się z instytucjonalną dyskryminacją ze względu na kolor skóry, pochodzenie, klasę społeczną i możliwości finansowe. Z tego powodu napotykają na niesprawiedliwe traktowanie w wielu aspektach codziennego życia.

Ludzie będący częścią społeczności BAME są czterokrotnie częściej sprawdzani przez policję niż biali mieszkańcy Wysp Brytyjskich. 

Statystyki wskazują, że członkowie społeczności BAME 17 razy częściej chorują na choroby psychiczne niż biali ludzie. Mówimy tu choćby o chorobie afektywnej dwubiegunowej, czy schizofrenii. 

Nie mają oni równego dostępu do opieki zdrowotnej w ramach Mental Care Health. Wiele nowych zasad i reguł powinno zostać natychmiastowo wdrożonych, by skończyć z uprzedzeniami i wszystkim bez wyjątku zapewnić równy dostęp do opieki zdrowotnej w ich zmaganiach z problemami natury psychicznej.

Wszyscy powinniśmy być równi. Równość dostępu do usług medycznych, jest równie istotna jak wolność słowa.

The year 2020 will be remembered as the year when major activities were brought to stand still. It was all due to the outbreak of Covid-19 pandemic.

Quite normal and average year like others has been halted by the outbreak of the pandemic. 

The virus has put many countries into serious financial crisis and it continues to cause damage across the world.

Aside from the impact of the coronavirus pandemic, 2020 has also seen the rise of Black Lives Matter movement, following the death of black man George Floyd in the US.

These events and the protests following Floyd's death has brought to attention the issue of mental health especially in the Black and Minority Ethnic (BAME) community.

Mental health is one of the major issues that affect BAME communities, also in UK. 

One of the reasons why this community continues to experience high levels of mental illness is largely because people from these communities often face challenges that can affect access to healthcare and make them more likely to be living in poverty and experience higher unemployment rates.

Racial discrimination is one of major factors with significant and a very negative impact on mental health of certain people.

In the UK, the BAME population tend to deal with institutionalised discrimination because of their colour, class and financial capability.

Because of that they experience unfair treatment in many aspects of their lives.

People from BAME are four times more likely to be stopped and searched by the police than white people.

Statistics suggest that a black man is 17 times more likely than a white man to be diagnosed with a mental health condition such as bipolar disorder or schizophrenia. 

Institutional racism can also be a barrier to the BAME community receiving support when they've got issue with their mental health.

The implications of mental health among the BAME community show the need to implement new rules and recommendations to address the prejudice which the BAME population are subject to and allow them to get access to the proper help, should they need it.

We should all be equal, and we should all care about each other. Equality of chances and freedom of speech above all.
